The Wall - Sailing Site |
Dog river coffee and then Bette's - same old, same old.....
Everyone was anxious to sail after the light day yesterday. The forecast was for relatively strong winds looking best around Marry Hill and the Wall.
 |
The Wall |
It only took one person to get up from the table after breakfast and the frenzie was on... all the Lemmings followed - the race was on. the Wall was the call!
I stopped at Doug's Beach on the way out - it was sailable but not great. I text'd Kent - he was all ready at the wall and said it was 4.8-ish and that Big Air Jim was also just pulling up.
 |
Kent - wind DUMMY |
Kent was the first on the water, rigging a 4.2. After struggling to get a waterstart he proceeded to swim half way out in the river and then practiced his submarine board slogging style on the way back.
Not to be outdone, and knowing that Kent is "all-knowing" when it comes to wind and water, Rene headed out as well, but without any better luck.

It looked like it would be one of those days when you just have to wait for it to fill in. Bruce Peterson had said that it may be late. We sat around enjoying each others company (for the most part) and watching various others attempt to sail. There were gusts, but mostly holes.....
The wind came up around noon - and we all had a pretty good sail for about an hour - then it dropped off again.

Al is still waiting for his keys - but there is room in the Big Air Jim Van for his stuff so at least he is not missing any sailing. |

Big Air Jim - to smart to put on his rubber - yet.. |

Ted - waiting for the wind! |
After another couple of hours sitting in the sun and watching the water (very pleasant considering that it snowed last night at home...), Brad and Blaine took off their wetsuits. that was all it took. The wind filled in across the river and we got in another hour or so of solid sailing. Most of the guy's were on 4.8s or 5.2. I was on my 5.6 and Nash board. Great sail.

Eddy says Awesome day! |
 |
Ted ready to Jibe! |

Brad got tired of hearing about Mikes "BEST SESSION EVER" so he stuck grapes in his ears! |

It was so hot we all had to move into the shade. Fortunately the Big Air Jim Van provides not only shade but also an efficient wind shadow! |
 |
Blaine wasn't impressed when Mike put all the old empty beer cans in his empty board bag.... |

Brad took this photo of me taking pictures of the beach. The Marryhill bridge and Mount Hood are in the background! |
It was 7:00pm by the time we finished sailing and packed up. We all headed back into hood river and went to the
pFriem Family Brewers for a Beer and Dinner.
All in all - another great day - and 7 sailing days out of 7 for me!
