Sunday, September 07-Transition Day

2014-09-07

The weather Sunday worked as predicted.  We woke up to a beautiful warm, calm day.  The water was glassy.  What a fantastic day for anyone except a windsurfer....

No one was in a hurry to get going.  We got to Bette's late, and it was only because Cherie opened up the back room for us that we were able to get served.

Breakfast in the "Secret" back room at Bette's
After breakfast, and some shopping the group split up.  Big Air Jim went to wash his Van, Ross went Mountain Biking, and Rene read a book.   Brad, Blaine, Kent, Mike and Al went biking to Moiser for coffee at the Route 30 Antique Car and Ice Cream Shop!

Al  had a bit of drama again - as the bike he had rented had worn out tires and he had two flat tires in a row.  Ross came to the rescue and gave him a ride back.  Al said that it wasn't all bad - he didn't have to climb the hill back out of Moiser.  When he got back to the shop, they tried to tell him that he had wrecked the tire somehow.....  I think Mountain View Cycles has had it's last sale or rental from any of our group!

I went to the Hood River Fly-In and toured through the Washington Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum WAAAM.

This Seawind is similar to my new Radio Controlled Model.
My Radio Controlled Model "Seawind"!
I had fun taking photos of the old planes, motorbikes and cars.   I also saw a Seawind Seaplane - just like, although considerably bigger, my new RC Seawind.  The major difference is it has retractable floats on the wing tips.

After the Fly-in - and a stop at the shops to buy a new fin...  I headed over the river to the Bingen Huckleberry Festival.  It was a small town fair with may trade booths and a live stage with blues and popular music.  It was a very friendly environment and the Huckleberry Pie and Fresh Squeezed Lemonade were excellent.

Jug Band at the Huckleberry Festival.
There is a local election going on.  It is interesting that they elect many of the people like the Municipal Assessor and Municipal Treasurer, as well as Sheriff, and County Attorney.

Excellent Huckleberry Pie

Around 4:30 the wind seemed to have been picking up so I drove to the Hatchery.  Kent and Rene were already there and there were people sailing on the water.  We rigged our big stuff and headed out.  We had a very good sail for about an hour before it started to drop off.  Al rigged, but decided not to go out as the wind was dying - at least he got wet and cooled off.

Kent - keeping his fin in the water!
Blaine, Brad and Jim came in time to sit on the log and watch.  Blaine did take out my rig and got planing twice and did one jibe.  There was some discussion about whether or not it should count as a sailing day...   hey - he did get planing - much better than sitting on a log.  We think it should count - and we think Al should get credit for a day sailing as well.

When we got back to the house, we found out that Ross and Mike had a good kiting session as well.

We were all packed up by about 7:30 so we all headed to 6th Street again for supper.  They always give us excellent service and the food is great!

We are looking forward to better wind tomorrow.  The forecast is for 25-30mph!
